You can do the ARISE Internship at any one of our seven ARISE campuses. The largest intake is in our Wellington office which houses both the Wellington and Kapiti teams.
We offer Internships for one year, two years and three years. You don’t have to have decided at the beginning of first year if you want to continue, you can decide that later. We have four different streams you can apply for Pastoral/Leadership, Creative Arts, Community or Management. Each year will be 70% practical and 30% study as outlined below. The internship leads towards a recognised NZQA qualification, with the first year working towards a Level 4 Certificate in Christian Ministries and higher levels to follow. We undertake this in conjunction with Alphacrusis and this course is run locally and also via distant learning. Topics include Pastoral Care, Leadership, Evangelism. Each intern will have a supervisor and a mentor for input and guidance throughout their year also.
This programme is for those who wish to serve in the local church, to further their study, deepen their knowledge of the Bible and their Christian faith. Your time will be divided between practical work, devotions, reflections and lectures. A great foundational course for people.
For those who want to take the next step in their ministry life and expanding on your Level 4 study. Your time will be divided between practical work, devotions, reflections and lectures and you will be given more responsibility in practical work of building the church.
You must have completed two years of an ARISE Internship to apply for this year. This could include being part of a church planting team or responsibility for a key area of a church function.
After growing up Christians but walking away from God, we were both saved as young teenagers in ARISE Church. For both of us, when we walked into ARISE for the first time, we were overwhelmed with the sense of God in the room. He transformed our lives and we each made a decision to follow God wholeheartedly. In our high school years that followed we both knew we wanted to work for God in whatever shape or form that may take. We felt a strong sense to serve and build the local church and see God move in lives just as he had in ours. We started the ARISE Internship in 2010 after one year of working out of high school. We both did three years and each year we grew and grew to become more like the people God intended us to be. We learnt so much, through the study but also through serving God practically. In our third year of the internship we then started to serve as Youth Pastors within the Wellington Campus. Within a year of finishing our internships, both of us were employed - Ray to run a weekly youth service and Emma to run Wellington creative and big day services. We then had the privilege of moving to Dunedin to launch the ARISE Dunedin Campus. Our growth and discipleship in the years we served as interns truly set us up for the ministry and serving God full time. It blessed us abundantly and we know that one small decision to start the internship aligned us with the God given purpose for our lives.
It was the second ever ARISE service in Christchurch and I had found a place to belong, a place to call home and an opportunity to serve. It was not until an ARISE Conference that I sensed a calling to give God a year of my life through ARISE Internship. I was due to finish a qualification in Graphic Design and I thought it would be an opportunity to use my skill set, serve the church and see God move increasingly in my life. I signed up for ARISE Internship and was among the first interns at ARISE in Christchurch. Looking back I was quite narrow-minded about what being a Creative Intern would entail and just how much it would mould and shape my life. I am so thankful for the strong mentoring I received while completing Internship. It was my leaders that saw potential, opened my mind to possibilities and developed skills that had not yet been realised. I was given responsibilities that stretched me and caused my capacity to increase. First it was a church service, then it was ‘big day’ services and soon it was the Christmas production. It was through internship that I really became passionate about events and it was here that my true calling in life was uncovered. I am now an Event Manager and have founded my own creative business. I strongly believe that it was internship that instilled in me the necessary skills and propelled me forward in the direction that God intended.
